55th Reunion

Below is the information sent to our class members. It contains the  planning details for our 55th. Make plans to join us. We know this is not the 50th with all the hoopla surrounding that event, but it will be just as fun and just as rewarding.

55^th Reunion Celebration – August 9-12, 2012

 Greetings from Royal Oak,

 Fifty-five years – it is hard to imagine we have lasted this long. Since we had such a grand time at the 50^th we believe this one will also be special and besides we are not getting younger – see your friends while you can.  So reserve the dates and begin your planning. We have cut out some of the 50^th reunion items: cups, shirts, DVDs, etc. and added other activites which are geared towards more face to face time.  Finally, we have changed our dinner at Red Run to buffet style to lower costs to $50 per person.

 Plan to come a couple days early to enjoy our events and reconnect with your friends.  We have some great events:  Golf, 19^th hole at Duggan’s, scenic cruise on the Detroit River followed by our usual rendezvous at Woody’s downtown.   Our main Reunion Dinner Party will again be at the Red Run Country Club.  Wrap-up will be brunch on Sunday at Jimi’s

 Other items:  

Our class website www.rodhs1957.com will have all the latest reunion details -- who is coming -- names and addresses.   Check it often.  By the way, we will shut down both the June and January websites shortly after the reunion.  In their place we will set up a Class Facebook page which should be much more convenient for most persons.  Stay tuned for more details.

 If you absolutely cannot attend:

Send pictures and a letter telling us what has happened in the last 55 years, what you are doing now, and your plans for the next few years. We will share with classmates.

Schedule of events

 Here is our tentative Schedule of events. We say “tentative” because there is a committee planning everything and you know how committees work. It seems pretty solid, but there may be adjustments as we get more input and more ideas. Up to date information will be on our website www.rodhs1957.com  and of course if weather becomes an issue, we’ll update the site to advise of any changed plans.

 Thursday August 9^th

Golf Outing – 12:00 noon   Rackham Golf Course – just west of the Zoo

Everyone needs a good laugh; Golf is as good as anything to provide those chuckles as well as an opportunity for some pre-union activities. Golfing skills are not required.  The precise format is under review, but there will be something for every skill and humor level. We’ll organize foursomes by class  and by the organizers whim.  Dave Richey is organizing January golfers and Peter Webster June golfers. Rackham is convenient and the cost only $22 with cart. Note, if you do not wish to golf, but do wish to harass the golfers come to the clubhouse and cheer/jeer them as they tee off and finish up.

 Social Gathering -5:00 PM Duggan’s - 31502 Woodward just north of 13 Mile Rd

For golfers and non-golfers -- Everyone is invited.   We might even have some trophies to present and who knows what else. The “what else” will surely include good food and adult beverages – in our case maybe some milk... Drinks and dinner are at your expense.

Friday August 10^th

Diamond Jack's Detroit River Cruise 1:00-3:00 pm (arrive early) – 1340 East Atwater

Enjoy a two hour cruise on the Detroit River (rain or shine). See the sights learn some history during the expertly narrated tour. Depart from Rivard Plaza, just east of the RenCen. Cost $15 per person (Sr. Rate). Light snacks including soft drinks, beer, wine are available on board. Sandwiches can be purchased at the Rivard Café prior to boarding.  Parking is $3 in the GM surface lot. Enter off Atwater Exact fee is required.  www.diamondjack.com.

Woody’s 5:00 PM until ???? -- 308 5^th St. downtown RO

This is our traditional gathering spot where we’ll meet on the roof for drinks, chit chat and food.

Saturday August 11th

Daytime ~ everyone is on their own to do as they like – maybe take a nap so not to fall asleep at dinner

 6:00 PM Red Run Country Club 2036 Rochester Road for reception and dinner party

Sunday August 12th

Brunch at Jimi’s 9:30- noon – 714 South Washington downtown

 Farewell 12:00 noon at Jimi’s – a sad farewell to everyone – we had a glorious time. See you at the 60th, 65^th

  NOTE: Anyone is welcome to attend any event even if not attending the dinner.
